My Local Committee is a little bit sleepy after summer — how to restart the processes and empower people with working mood?

To put it in the nutshell there is an amazing question how to activate leadership in LC people after Summer if their thoughts are still spreading across the world?

Okay, firstly — do not stop working. I’m kidding, of course everyone should take a rest 🙂

However during summer we have so many strategically important things to do and HOW to catch up on them?

Three main points you have to consider before summer:⚽️Set right expectations to people on common touchpoint (it’s better to remind more than once from time to time) that summer doesn’t mean that you take away your responsibility and duties and you are not VP/TL/whoever’s role during next two months

🎾Set clear expectations about communication in your team CONSIDERING that everyone will be somewhere and most probably you will not have meetings physically for long time which affects work. Set common online touchpoints and decide all together how you will manage risks if someone can’t attend

🏐Create a checklist of things you have to do during summer as a team according to your roles and strategies and TIMELINE. Create a risk-map what will happen if someone will fuck up the deadline.

But what to do if people still can’t get out of summer greatness?

🏀Leaders are role modelsStartwith yourself. Send people cheerful messages, videos and remind them before something important is gonna start!

⚾️Organise common touchpoint(LCM, for example) or something informal with people who are available, invite people who can join only online and share how your summer was, which learnings you did get and how they can improve team effectiveness!

Whom you become after this summer to make your team greater than 2 months ago?

🏈Keep going supporting people, talkingto them personally that you understand them.

Help and believe in each other and soon you will see - your people will miss you and tell others to attend next meetings for sure!

Как адаптироваться к тому, что вся коммуникация в AIESEC на английском, а у меня уровень очень сильно ниже beginner? «Май левел оф инглиш из бед. Из бед и разочарований»

Ответ:Привет от МС! Спасибо за вопрос🙌
В нашей команде есть один международный товарищ из солнечной Колумбии — Джан, MC VP oGT☀️

Благодаря ему (да-да, именно благодаря) вся коммуникация ведется только на английском. Прям вся-вся. В чате, в офисе, на кухне в квартире🙂

Это сложно, особенно когда устаешь и мозг не воспринимает не то что английский, и русский то со скрипом.

Мы спросили тех, кому поначалу было сложнее всего.

Артем Жила, уровень английского как ракета рванул к advanced🚀
«Мой английский не самый лучший, но работая в команде ты практикуешь его каждый день.

По-началу я пытался переключаться на русский — ведь так легче. Но слышал раскаты громкого «НЕЕЕЕТ» от других членов команды.

А потом меня поставили готовить сессию на конференции Summeet вместе с Джаном (спасибо большое :) — половину мыслей я объяснял жестами, но самое главное — это другая половина. Она была на английском. Сейчас все ребята отмечают, что мой уровень языка стал лучше.»

Оля Широчкина, уже начинает думать о CSR на английском🦉
«Когда я пришла в организацию и поехала на первую свою конференцию RusCo, я не понимала практически ничего по-английски.

Просила переводить мне и пыталась больше слушать английскую речь.

После конференции я записалась на курсы английского языка, чтобы вспомнить основную грамматику и убрать языковой барьер.

Для меня был своеобразный вызов – быть в департаменте iGET и общаться со стажерами, поэтому лето я провела с ними и стала намного лучше понимать английскую речь, даже индусов :)) (disclaimer — индусы the best👳‍♀️❤️)

Но без практики никуда — прошло пару месяцев, и уровень опять упал. Так я поняла, что нужно постоянно тренироваться.

На МС выборах у меня снова были проблемы с понимаем речи. Я очень переживала что не смогу быть включенной в работу из-за языка.

После практики на командных встречах, МС транзишна и планирования я стала понимать английский намного лучше.

Страх не выдержал моей упертости — я начала выражать свои мысли все лучше»

А теперь — пара практических советов от ребят:Артем:

1. #знай_о_чём_поют
   Слушай музыку — сразу находи текст на английском и проговаривай текст пока слушаешь песню.
2. #Рейчел_Фиби_Джоуи_Чендлер_Росс_Моника
   "Ходячие мертвецы" не так актуальны как "Друзья", но все мы смотрим сериалы, передачи или комиков из других стран — вперед на оригинал.
3. #learn_constantly
   Ни кто не отменял лучший образовательный канал во всём мире — TED talks! Сначала субтитры, а дальше уже без них.
4. #get_out_of_the_comfort_zone_OR_NOT
   У тебя есть стажеры в городе? Так вот не общайся с ними! Забудь, что это лучшая возможность прокачать английский! Английский он такой.. сам себя учит, главное ничего не делать в этом направлении.

Оля:

Я советую начать со своего мышления.

Будь открыт — не бойся просить помощи в переводе и пытаться высказывать свое мнение на английском. Это только кажется, что сложно. Начни с маленьких шагов. И воспринимай незнание английского языка не как барьер, а как на возможность стать лучшей версией себя. Не существует проблем, есть только возможности!

А еще — читайте этот канал в телеграмме, потому что больше на русском мы писать не будем.
