The President of the German Bundesbank, Joachim Nagel, calls for a banking supervision for social media. This is to prevent false reports about economic problems at banks.
He refers to social media posts about the bankruptcy of the Silicon Valley Bank. However, this one really went broke.
Allegedly, posts on social media had led to a bank run, Nagel claims. In order to prevent such cases, supervisors should take risks into account at an early stage.
Nagel cites South Korea as an exemplary example, where a task force of the banking supervision monitors social media:
"We could also think about this in Europe. (...) We must not rest, but must look carefully and sharpen up in case of "blind spots" in supervision.»It is not clear whether Nagel means pure surveillance or whether censorship could play a role. The latter could lead to cooperation between government agencies and big tech companies, similar to the recent corona crisis.

The Australian government is fudging the numbers of excess deaths downwards by using computer modelling. When the ABS first released the Jan-Mar 2023 excess deaths figures, they pegged excess deaths at 11.8%. In today’s release, they’re saying first quarter excess deaths are at 9.1%.

Victoria is the biggest loser, modelling shrinks excess death rate by up to a third
Nigel Farage, broadcaster and former leader of the Brexit Party, has made a striking allegation. In a video he posted on social media yesterday, Farage claims that two months ago his bank of more than 40 years suddenly announced that it would be closing his personal and business accounts – without offering any proper explanation as to why.
After many calls, emails and letters, he says that all he could get out of his bank was that it was dropping him as a customer for ‘commercial’ reasons. Stranger still, when he tried to set up an account elsewhere, he was rebuffed. By seven separate banks, he says.
A new and terrifying front is being opened up in the culture wars. Where once you could be deplatformed for refusing to toe the establishment line, now you can be defunded, debanked, financially unpersoned – deprived of the means of doing business or just living a normal life. Those dismissing this threat now – because it isn’t happening to them yet and they don’t much like those it does appear to be happening to – will have no right to complain when it bites them later.

Former Brazilian President Bolsonaro was barred from running for office until 2030 after telling foreign ambassadors last summer before fall’s election that he didn’t trust his country’s electronic voting system.
For whatever one may think about Bolsonaro personally or his presidency, and there are certainly many criticisms that can be leveled against them, he represents the antithesis of Lula and has the support of almost half the country according to the official results of the last election.
While it’s too early to tell whether Bolsonaro could hypothetically return to office if he was allowed to run, the fact that he was barred in the first place reduces the chances that the opposition will oust Lula since they no longer have anyone around whom they can rally. As was written in the title of this analysis, Lula is scared that Brazilians might re-elect Bolsonaro, which in turn hints that he and his team expect to make unpopular or at the very least very polarizing decisions in the coming future.
It can’t be known for sure, but this might have to do with the increasingly dictatorial policies that they’re relying on in the aftermath of the January 8th events, which includes social media censorship.

Accidental carbon monoxide poisoning or foul play? John Heathco and his wife died an unusual death in a luxury hotel in Mexico on June 13th.
