ALBUQUERQUE WILL TRY TO ENSURE THAT THE NEW TOBACCO LAW IS NOT APPLIED IN THE REGION
Miguel Albuquerque does not want the recent changes to the Tobacco Law to be applied in the Region and guaranteed that the Regional Government will fight for this not to happen.
“We are going to try that the law is not applied in Madeira”, he began by referring, adding that, in his view, “the law has to be changed”, since people should only have restrictions on smoking “when they harm non-smokers and when they jeopardize the public health of third parties”. Otherwise, “it’s nonsense”.
The Madeiran chief executive even says that the changes that recently came out of the Council of Ministers will end up being changed, “because there is a set of fanaticisms and fundamentalisms that make no sense”. “What makes sense is to continue the law that is in force, which is not to smoke indoors, not to smoke near schools and other public areas. Now smoking outside, in the garden or on a beach, or to stop selling tobacco at petrol stations, snack bars, and bars, I don’t see what the problem is. They are restrictions without any sense”, he concluded on the sidelines of a conference on Digital Transition in Schools, which took place at the Madeira Congress Centre.

190 HOUSES WILL GAIN COLOUR
Among two hundred owners, no one is against it. This is the most relevant data for the chromatic project that the President of the Regional Government proposed in February for the parish of Paul do Mar, and that DIÁRIO announced firsthand.
The working group is made up of the vice-president of the City Council, the president of the Board and also by elements of the regional secretariat for Equipment and Infrastructures, it is two days away from closing the consultation with the population, however it is already guaranteed that all the residents joined the project.A “very satisfactory” expression that, according to the mayor of Calheta, “speaks well of the acceptance of the owners” who applaud this initiative.“We are talking about 190 houses that will receive an intervention on their respective facades, in order to proceed with their rehabilitation in a heritage enhancement project but which I am also sure will become a point of tourist attraction due to the way in which the cluster of houses he’s willing”, adds the mayor who still doesn’t know how to specify when the painting work begins between the port area and the cemetery.
`“Once the survey is over, we take another step, which is the opening of the tender procedure, in partnership with the Regional Government, for which we will establish a counter-program for this purpose”, explains the steps that will be taken in the next few days.
Carlos Teles recalls that the shades vary between white, yellow, green and orange, but it is the owners themselves who define the choice, with the criteria so that there are no neighboring houses with identical colours.`

HALO AROUND THE SUN TODAY
Solar halo is an optical phenomenon around the Sun caused by refractions and reflections of light in small ice crystals suspended in troposphere clouds. It occurs in the same way as the rainbow, in which the light, when passing through the ice particles, breaks down into the colors we know. However, in the case of the solar halo, it has a circular shape because of the geometry of these ice crystals.
The lunar halo, in turn, occurs based on the same principle as the solar halo, the only difference is that the circle formed takes place around the Moon.

ESPADA PRICE INCREASED BY MORE THAN 40%
On the front page of the Jornal Madeira today, they highlight the increasing price of some of Madeira’s local fish and seafood.
In just one year, the price of black scabbardfish increased by 43.13%. Merchants at Mercado dos Lavradores acknowledge to the JM that the increase punishes the final consumer, while the Regional Government understands that the increase translates into high demand and a reduction in the quantity caught. The rise in prices is also seen in other products, such as limpets, which already cost 15 euros or more per kilo, and fresh Tuna is also suffering high increases.
